The Process of Building a Custom Gown
At the first meeting we'll talk about what your desires are for your look on the day of your event. Then your measurements will be taken. If this is an original design and an original pattern needs to be made, there may be 15 to 20 measurements required. Less will be required for a simple dress or if a commercial pattern is used. The pattern is then made or adjusted to your size if a commercial pattern is used.
A copy of the gown is made in a muslin fabric to see how the gown will look and fit. At this point you will come back for your first fitting. We will also determine at this meeting the type of special undergarments that may be needed for the type of garment we are making. You will need to bring these with you along with your shoes to the first fitting.
First Fitting
At the first fitting you will be trying on a sample (muslin) of your gown. Please bring your undergarments that you plan on wearing the day of the event in order to ensure a proper fit. The fit and design will be checked and any changes can be decided at this point regarding the fit and/or the design itself. After the first fitting adjustments will be made if needed and the gown will be tried on again. This process will continue until you the client is happy.
Next fitting
At this fitting you will once again bring your undergarments and your shoes. This will help determine the hem length. There may also be some change in the fit because some brides gain or lose weight during this time. These are usually minor changes and will be easily corrected prior to the delivery.
Finale
Your gown has been fitted to perfection and sent to be cleaned and pressed. So when you come in this time the gown will be ready to go home with you. If you'd like, bring all your accessories and a photo can be taken of you in your new creation either in the studio or her in the garden area.
